Eggstra! Eggstra!

READ ALL ABOUT IT... I'm preparing for Christmas this year by taking inventory of my food storage! I love FOOD; therefore i'm making sure i have plenty of it (to share!:)!! Becca F. i thought of you when i was preparing these eggs!

This is eggstremely easy! Store fresh eggs for 2 years! I bought 2 dozen eggs for this (99 cents ea.)! I wanted to try it, so i'll do some now and more in the spring when there is abundance- let's hope!! Here a little, there a little. Sound familiar? Just start small- but start! Hey-as long as i can make some cookies!!

An egg will stay fresh as long as air does not penetrate the somewhat porous shell. When an egg is laid, it has a coating on it that protects the contents from going bad. When eggs are processed for commercial sale, they are cleaned, thereby removing some of the natural coating that was protecting the egg from spoilage. All we are doing is recreating the barrier between the outside air and the egg within the shell.

HERE'S HOW:
1) Get a large container of VASELINE and some eggs, preferably in styrofoam cartons. If you can only get cardboard, just use plastic wrap inside to protect the cardboard from the Vaseline.

2) Take eggs out of the carton; rub Vaseline all over the egg until it is covered completely. The Vaseline doesn't have to be thick, just don't miss any spots. When it's covered, set it back into the egg carton, with the wide end of the egg at the top. Repeat until all eggs are covered. Close cartons, date, and put into your food storage. Be careful...They are eggs!

To use the eggs put a little dish soap on your hands and rub it all over the egg. Rinse with warm water while wiping the egg clean. Only wash as many eggs as you intend to use.

If you want to be sure that an egg is good, simply put an egg into a bowl of water. If it sinks, it's fresh! If it floats, some air has gotten inside the shell and you simply throw it away!!

Go for it!!

I am going to totally try this. My family loves eggs. The question is where to store eggs safely? Hmmm I will have to think about this one.

When you try one let us know how it turns out and if anyone got sick, Then if everyone is fine I'll try it, but I'm way weird about food contamination. It sounds like a good idea though. Thanks for the info.
